Sugar and Ginger

Posted By on December 10, 2010

Ginger is my sister.

She almost died earlier this year from severe dehydration, but decided to live and take care of me.

We were born outside and ate dog food put out by our wonderful neighbor, Harold. Rebecca couldn’t get us caught and had to go on vacation. Because the mom had taken up residence in their backyard, Rebecca asked these other neighbors to’ feed the cat and her three kittens’ until she could get back, Rebecca gave them food to put down for us. When Rebecca got home we were nowhere to be seen and a dog was in the back yard. What happened to the mom and her kittens? The last I saw them they were running up the tree to get away from the dog. We had to put the dog in the back. It’s our grandmother’s dog, the neighbor said. What about the cats? I don’t know we haven’t seen them. Rebecca was fuming.

A few days later, Rebecca saw our mom, Skippy. She took her into her house and kept an eye out for us. Sure enough, I came out of the bushes and so did Ginger. The other sister or brother, a beautiful white cat with orange spots must have been caught by the dog. She/he was never seen again. Rebecca put food in a carrier and trapped us and brought us into the house. We were put in a bathroom and hid behind the toilet whenever anyone came in. Rebecca had Sara, a young lady who was her pet nanny, work with us so we would trust her. One day Rebecca walked into the bathroom and Ginger and I were sitting on Sara’s legs while she was stretched out on the floor. Sara laughed and so did Rebecca. Mission acomplished.

Our mother never wanted to be with us so she went to live on the breezeway and we lived in the house downstairs in Boo Boo land with Snicker and Oreo. Our mother slipped out one July through a broken screen while Rebecca was on vacation, but that’s another story.
